Salango Slams Justice for Failure to Report School COVID Cases
September 23, 2020
CHARLESTON, WV--Today, Democratic nominee for Governor Ben Salango issued the following statement about a Charleston Gazette-Mail report that the Justice Administration is failing to report new active COVID-19 cases, putting children, educators, and families at risk.
“Once again, Jim Justice is manipulating the COVID-19 data to score political points,” said Democratic Nominee for Governor Ben Salango. “Justice is putting politics over public safety. His repeated changes to reporting of COVID-19 cases in the state has caused confusion and chaos among West Virginians who rely on the consistent accuracy of these metrics. By deciding not to report accurate data in our schools, he is putting the lives of children, teachers, and school service personnel at risk and that is unacceptable,” concluded Salango.
Earlier this month, Justice changed the state’s reporting procedures to include another color, causing confusion for parents and educators. Salango has called for local control and consistency of the school re-entry and sports participation plans.
