CHARLESTON, WV — Today, the Professional Firefighters of West Virginia (PFFWV) announced that they are supporting Ben Salango for governor in the 2020 election.

The membership of the PFFWV is comprised of firefighters and EMTs across the state of West Virginia. The PFFWV is part of the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) and represents over 1,000 active and retired members.

As a Kanawha County Commissioner, Salango has a proven record of supporting firefighters, EMTs, and first responders.

“Ben Salango gets things done and is a true friend of firefighters and first responders,” said Brian Jones, president of the Professional Firefighters of West Virginia. “Firefighters and EMTs across West Virginia stand with Ben because he’s always had our back. We need a governor who will support the men and women on the frontlines of the opioid epidemic and isn’t afraid to roll up his sleeves for first responders.”

“This endorsement means a lot because it comes from the men and women who put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe," said Ben Salango. “I want to be governor to do the job that working families of West Virginia need to be done. I look forward to working with our firefighters and EMTs to get them the resources they need.”

As governor, Salango will expand mental health and substance abuse counseling for all first responders and will encourage the creation of wellness centers specifically for first responders. In addition, he will focus on the recruitment and retention of professional firefighters across West Virginia.
